I have noticed that our sit has dropped off in MSN while doing well everywhere else, our url is still indexed but when I type in even the vaguest of keyword phrases I still get nothing??

I checked msn this morning for one of my sites keyword phrases. We normally rank number 7 in the directory results, but today there were no directory results only web pages. Perhaps this has something to do with your site dropping? I heard Looksmart were going to be dropped by msn but didn't think it would be this soon.

Anyone else noticed anything similar?

Yes, LookSmart UK listings have gone from MSN UK. It was expected to happen this month - and happen it has! INK rules the roost (for the time being).

...and suddenly the results seem a lot more relevant.

Or is that just me?

It would make sense. Ink has got to be way more relevant than Look results. Heck, anything would be!

We've had a few clients notice the change - and so far, they've all been happy with what they've seen.

Wonder how long until it changes again? Months?

Happier with the search results? Really? I'm getting totally random and irrelevant results and the page looks awful. I can't see how MSN can expect to compete if this is what they have to offer people.

Will Inktomi be added to the "much hypothesized" MSN bot results when LookSmart bows out in Jan.?

Inktomi provides their results right now (with LS), but eventually, MSN is planning to have their own results, and apparently will drop Inktomi once they're ready.

Hello,
i am not very happy with MSN results.

Happier with the search results? Really? I'm getting totally random and irrelevant results and the page looks awful. I can't see how MSN can expect to compete if this is what they have to offer people.

I agree with this. recently I placed a link for one of my clients site which is relatively new on an other site of an other client which is quite popular now.
You know what MSN is showing. MSN is ranking in top 10 the site where I placed the link not the original site. This is some stupid result. The site which it is showing on top 10 only bears the description and nothing really about that site which it is linking to. But the new site is the one which has all the original contents.
But smart google displays the perfect result. It shows the original site on the top results. Now tell me who is better. I cannot control my laughter when I see this results in MSN and hotbot :embarrassed: .
Comments please,
thanks,
VIJAY.

>Comments please,

Remove the link if you don't want the "irrelevant" site to show up. And trust me, Google can and does do exactly the same thing!

Isn't it funny how relevance is usually a euphimism for "my site doesn't rank properly" - I can show you two complaints about (place any search engine's name here) lack of relevance for every complaint about Inktomi (or any other search engine). It usually boils down to rankings of the complainer.

I've done it too :)

After checking rankings, because traffic to one of my pages dropped this morning, I found that MSN.com doesn't seem to display the Zeal listings ("WEB DIRECTORY SITES") anymore. However, when I tried my other browsers that don't have a Passport cookie, I found that they are still displayed for that.

The one with the automatic Passport login displays a different logo now: "Beta MSN search."

This switch hasn't done me any favours, my users through MSN have dropped from nearly 40,000 a month to just over 16,000. Lets just home the new search that MSN are developing shares the same properties as Look
