I have a competitor who has a master or controlling shopping cart and a number of other shopping carts with different domain names all pointing back to the master cart or domain name.
Therefore the have obtained at least two positions in the top ten pages of Google for each domain name for each keyword phrase they are going for.
Does this actually fall under duplication or Illegal re-directs?
They have also paid for a number of co.uk and .com domain names all redirecting to the master cart. They have optimised these home pages for good keywords and therefore get even more positions, the user never actually lands on the original domain name.
Hope the above makes sense.
Regards

Welcome nichokg!

There's nothing wrong with having duplicate content nor redirecting pages. It's all about intent. Are they using those techniques for legitimate reasons, or to attempt to spam the engines and gain additional sites that essentially provide the same info?

Thanks for the reply, I understand what you are saying but to further expand.....
I have 10 products on my Website that appeal to two groups of people (A and B).
I have a website designed to attract group A with the CART attached. I have a website designed to attract group B directing them to the product and CART on website A.
Therefore I potentially could have FOUR entries on Google page one for each product keyword I am optimising for.
Now this to me is classed as duplicate, illegal re-directs and spamming to gain lots more FREE entries on search engines. Basically I have the same 10 products but one website is pink and the other blue with limitied content changes.

Chances are only one of the sites will end up showing in the engines, which is as it should be, since they are both providing essentially the same info.
