I have seen it written time and time again that a listing on Yahoo counts very well toward link popularity. I have also noticed (on this forum) that being listed on other directories may help your link popularity as well.
Now I know that the top search engines are clearly the most important ones to be listed on (Google, Yahoo, MSN, AOL, etc). Yet, will having a site listed on several (even dozens) of other directories or even crawlers help a site's link popularity?
If so, are there any "credible" or "trustworthy" websites or software that will submit a site to several "reputable" search engines? Again, I primarily ask with a view to improving link popularity.

It's not just about link pop. There's traffic to be gotten, even from those tiny directories.
But I can't recommend any automated submission tool. I really believe it's best to make every submission manually. I actually spent about an hour this morning submitting three sites to maybe a dozen places. Not hard work, not terribly time consuming, but every place you submit asks slightly different questions. An automated tool can't find the right sub-sub-subcategory for a site on a directory that doesn't happen to be structured in exactly the same way as the ODP.

Hey! Happy Birthday Corey!
I agree with Qwerty- there isn't a tool that can answer the questions asked by most directories. You are better off to hand-submit them to appropriate directories.

Automated submission software is useless IMO. Do it by hand. What I do after I have written the description that will be submitted to the directories is to open Notepad and put in all the information that directories ask for which may be things like:
Your Name
Email Address
URL
Title
Description
Keyword List (long list separated by commas)
Short Keyword List (5-10)
Web Site Company Address & Phone #
Once you have these things on the Notepad file, you can copy and paste back and forth from the file and the directory you are submitting to.
For good info on how to submit to directories, see an article I recently published entitled "Proper Directory Submissions".
You should never have to submit to the crawlers unless the site is brand new and then you may submit through their Add URL forms but usually if you get your site listed in the top directories, the crawlers will pick it up and this is the preferred method.
