I own a fairly new business focusing on Internet Marketing, primarily Pay Per Click. Yet, as a service to my new customers, I offer to do Paid Inclusion to the regular PI sites.

Recently, many of my clients have had a special interest in Inktomi. In fact, I have used Position Tech to submit a couple of sites because I was not seeing them show up on Inktomi. Yet, recently I have noticed that none of my clients are showing up when I type in their domain name into www.Inktomi.com.

So I went back to the site that I know I submitted and it does not show up when I type the domain name into Inktomi.com. Yet, back at Position Tech, they say that it has been submitted and crawled regularly.

This leads me to the question that I am asking here...

How can I know if a site is being crawled by Inktomi or not? Will typing the domain name into www.Inktomi.com not tell me, as it does for Yahoo and other sites?

Inktomi.com is a corporate web site for Inktomi describing their services. It is not a public search engine.

As such, it is not going to show your domain. You can check if your URL is indexed via HotBot.com, other INK partners like MSN or (of course) via your PT control panel.

However, if PT say it has been indexed - they are usually correct. Remember though, being indexed and rankings are two completely different things - though you need the first to get the second

One way is to look in your server logs.

you can also check Inkomi SERP's Here

MMT is right, Indexing and Ranking are two different things.
Are your pages optimized for the words you were searching for?

You can check if your URL is indexed via HotBot.com ...

I will add that if you want to see all the pages Inktomi has indexed through HotBot, you'll need to do an Advanced Search option and then in the Domain Site Include/Exclude field, put your domain in the "include" field box (domain.com) and then search for your domain. HotBot used to have one of those "Show more pages for this site" functions when it finds more than one page for a site but now no longer does. Therefore you have to do the advanced search to find all the pages indexed for any particular domain name.

Has anyone noticed if being indexed by intkomi is different from paying for inclusion as far as the SERPS go?

I'm wondering if anyone has any data that would let us know if your position in Ink is affected by whether or not you are paying for indexing. I know it's not supposed to, but I'm wondering about RL effects, not marketing hype and wishful thinking.

the reason I'm asking is that I've been indexed in Ink forever, and still come up when a search is done, but it's recently been way down the list. I've also recently let my Ink inclusion lapse. Connection?

The times are not exact - ie it's not like the day after I was dropped or anything, there is a month or two in between.

I have not noticed any difference. We do both PFI and allow for regular indexing and I have not seen Inktomi give a boost to those who pay ... yet anyway. -_-

Thanks everyone. HotBot seems to work. I appreciate your help.
