Cheers all,

I am looking at running a "1st Annual Web Design 'Giveaway' ".
Yeah, it doesn't sound right.

I need a term to replace the 'Giveaway'.
Web design might be questionable too, I realize it, but I want people to start associating web design with my company... thus, in this case I think this is an acceptable use.

The Giveaway, well that just sounds all wrong.
Basically, I will be offerering some free webdesign to the winner, a set dollar value not yet established...

Any suggestions for a better term?

Hi Bytech-

What is the goal of this promotion? How are you going to market it?

I'm trying to find new clients, and it will hopefully be advertised through the media, and a draw in storefront bussineses (printing shops, computer stores)... I don't want to give aay too much of my marketing ideas, so I realize I am keeping it vague... :D Still, I know the more everyone is told, the better they can help me.

OK- advertising it in local offline media? Looking for local business? Trying to build a mailing list?

Some people will tell you 1st Annual is a misnomer... it can't be annual until you do it next year. That was a pet peeve of my high school English teacher.

It's hard to give you a good catch phrase without knowing a little more about how you are promoting it. The most compelling headline woud simply be "Free Web Site Design" followed with a detailed subheading and more details about entering and what the winner would receive.

That would get the most eyeballs!

Welcome, Bytech!

I don't have any ideas for you, but be careful with whatever you choose to do in regards to a giveaway if you're doing it like a contest. There are tons and tons of laws that govern contests, and you can't generally just have one without following the rules explicity, or you could get into legal trouble.

Just something to look into before you get too deep into this. Especially if you're planning on promoting it heavily with the media.

Good luck!

Also, consider that words like "giveaway", "free" etc can trigger email filters if you ever send the press release by email. Try crafting the message more around the services that your company offers which set you apart. Don't lead with the giveaway. (If this is all you have it is probably not newsworthy enough anyway to generate any real interest.)
