Happy Friday, everyone! ;)

As a follow-on to this, perhaps a summary of the most valuable and popular tools would be in order?

I am thinking of both free and paid tools, both online and otherwise.

While the tools like Wordtracker and Web Position Gold are pretty widely known, it seems that there are a number of other ones (Sim Spider, Mark Horrell's keyword density checker and the (in)famous Free Monitor For Google.

As a relative neophyte to the SEO universe, many of these kinds of tools are still unknown to me, so I would imagine that others face the same obstacle.

Does anyone have any personal favorites? Perhaps if we could compile a listing of such resources, along with a brief description of each, we would all find useful tools.

Have a great weekend!

Hi Googlewhacked!

Who is the adorable little guy in your avatar?

I split this post off from the Tips for Newbies to give it it's own thread. Good topic!

Hi GW!

There are some really good free ones out there. One paid one I have that I absolutley ADORE is Optilink. It's a link checker and works like a charm. I think my boss paid somewhere in the neighborhood of $150 or so.

For some really good tools you can go to JimWorld and check those out. I use just about all of 'em.

I have a ton of stuff in my "favorites"--actually too many to list.

Scottie's right--great topic!

Have a great weekend!

Hey Scottie,

Actually, that is my 9.5 month old son. (Man, does that kid love being in front of the camera! Must get it from his mom...)

I'm cool with the move, since I wasn't really sure where else to put it...

Thanks for the tip on Optilink, Deb. I'll check it out when I have the chance (probably around 11pm tonight...)

On the subject of HTML, custom tags and validators, one of the tools that I use the most is HTML-Kit, a "Home Site" -ish HTML editor. While it does not necessarily qualify as an "SEO" tool (it is an HTML / code-view editor), it has a built-in validator which uses the HTML Tidy plugin.

Being the code monkey that I am, this tool is central to a lot of what I do during my waking hours. And the best part? It is FREE!!! (Ya gotta love free software, especially good free software!)

I don't think I've ever seen an SEO tools thread go this long without a mention of Xenu. Xenu spiders through a website, giving you an idea of internal linking, as well as a list of external links and broken links to analyze. Also features a quick and dirty sitemap generator some love. All for free (always the best feature of all, eh?).

Hey Tenyque,

Actually, this is one of the few tools that I do know of, I just forgot to mention it (I was suffering from Friday-itis at the time...). I do sincerely appreciate you posting the link, though.

This is one that I wish Google would make public in the same format:

http://inventory.ove...ory/suggestion/

Overture search term suggestion tool is great to get an idea of the monthly search volume of a word and get other suggested terms from that word.

I wish they would update it to support UTF-8 encoding, but I still use http://googledance.seochat.com daily. If they don't update it soon, I'll probably make one on my own...
