I just got an email from a guy wanting me to write copy for him. At first I was excited because it was a subject matter I'm in love with! But his name sounded familiar to me for some reason so I did a search.
I didn't find what I expected, but I did find out I don't want to work with this guy.
He has 7 lawsuits against people and companies right now. For stupid stuff, too! One site had all the details of the suits and links to the court documents.
I quickly told him I couldn't take on his project, but didn't go into details.
How frightening! If this guy sues people for anything and everything, I could have very well found myself in court for some stupid, trumped up charges.
You just never know who you're dealing with out there

We recently had a client that we did quite a bit of business with. Come to find out that he too like to sue everyone and everybody. We found numerous suits he had against people as well as suits against him.
We never tried to sue us because we had good contracts in place and stuck to them. However, had I of know what type of guy he was before we acquired him as a customer, I probably would had turned down the project(s).
Why is he no longer a client then? Because he's doing 2.5 years for a felony conviction of defrauding his customers out of around $400k

Yeah, contracts help, but as my x-uncle and belated grandfather proved for years and years, contracts are made to be broken.
Both of them were the type of person who walked around looking for someone to sue. Drove me crazy! I can't tell you how their attorneys took solid contracts and turned them into mush.
However, contracts do give you a little backbone with the courts.
