I have five websites and one of the important ones got very affected of this new Goggle update the other ones remain in the same position.

This affected site has been up for three years and had very good ranking until this new thing it didn't disappear but lost from Nr 1 ranking to a average of 20 ranking in the most major keywords. My competitors websites that have better ranking than me now is sites that are quite "spammy" which I believed would never pass the california update last year. But now they have better ranking them me, I am quite not sure if I should tweak little or just wait because this site had really good ranking and it took me long to get there.

Any suggestions?

I wouldn't change anything yet Argos. From everything I'm seeing the first round is still in progress so to speak. Generally when we see these types of things we also see some further tweaking by the search engine after the original round.

Instead, have a look at all of your sites. Take note of the little things to see if you can spot why one site dropped and others didn't or even improved. That may give you some insight on how to proceed once things have settled down again. Assuming you need to do anything at all at that point.

It depends. Do you feel that your site is the way it should be? Does it "feel" right to you? Would changes make it better or worse?

The answers to those questions should help you decide what to do.

Stupid Question time but when was this Google Update and was it major? What is the nickname for it so I can search some older threads.

Just my luck I am buried in optimizing, come up for air and they change something!! hmm.gif

I am quite happy with this site specially the ranking, I had very good ranking but the problem is that I am 100% depending on the searchengines. But I am considering to just leave it for a short time to see what happens and Instead work on the targeted links. But if google will stay like this then I definitely need to make more changes.

And this is my highest sales period that is why its so critical.

You may want to spend this time to learn other forms of marketing and advertising as it's just not a good idea to be 100% dependent upon the search engines. Especially if you're talking about organic traffic.

Have you tinkered with PPC?

You definitely need to be doing some PPC advertising- you cannot count on editorial results to be there.

If this time period is critical to your business, get over there and set up an AdWords account and an Overture account now! How can you afford NOT to?

Your other sites are fine, and if you work on those sites the same way you work on this site that has fallen in ranking then there should be no problem.

As far as I can see google has only tweaked results, I see no major changes, and as we all know sites can jump and fall at any time and then a week or 2 later they are back to average positions.

One of my sites has gone to number 1 for a very good term, but another site has fallen completely, both happened on the same day, I fully expect both to go back to similar long term positions with next week or so, although the site that fell has very few pages and not much content, so Im working on that now.

Ok I don't think we have to name it, you guys were right my site has started to climb up again so hopefully it will get same ranking. It's seems like google was just testing something. Lyckily I listened and only worked on my links little more..

Ok now my patience is about to end, I dent seem to get my ranking back and the annoying thing is that the obvious spammy sites with hidden text etc. has better ranking than me and I thought google could see that and give them penalty. I know with just some extra forbidden tricks I would get on the top. But then again This site has been exactly where I want it for long time and so it would maximum lose a couple of places not 20 like it has now.
I have checked I have equal amount of links but I have more quality links. But they still have better place.

What do you guys suggest should I tweak it or continue to wait.
