Is Web Position Gold Junk...and Is Submitting Bad?
Posted 07 October 2003 - 04:42 PM
I used to do this thing, where I would use web position each day to submit a different page of our site (900 of them) and I would do that for a week or so and then slack off, then hit it again, then slack off, then.....
The results never failed me though, everytime I did it, the phone would ring off the hook for about two weeks afterwards. But I started to hear bad things about web position, then the number of engines in wb started to fall off, then I heard jill say you shouldn't (or shouldn't have to) submit daily.
Anyone have any ideas on whether submitting daily is a good or bad thing? I haven't done it in a while and right now I'm kinda grabbin at straws for some new rankings.
So is webposition bad?
Is submitting each day bad or fruitless, even if done through SE submission pages?
Could the practice possibly be bad?

That's quoted from http://www.google.co...bmasters/1.html
You can submit your site as often as you like, but multiple submissions will not improve the likelihood of your site being added or accelerate the process. We do not penalize sites for 'over-submitting'. If you choose to submit your site, only the top-level domain is necessary, as the spiders will follow your internal links to all the rest of the pages.
I also don't use WPG. But the question of whether it's "bad" depends a lot on what you're using it for. I don't think the search engines like automated submissions (even if that automated submission is done in such a way as to pretend to be a normal browser). I know they don't appreciate automated queries, like using WPG to check your ranks.

But I wonder if I should go back to the daily submissions. WB never did alta vista, but ive never had much luck there anyway. Heck, I did a search for phone systems today on altavista and the first link on the page for for a company that had NOTHING to do with phone systems (once you got past the paid folks anyway)
None the less, I cannot seem to get listed in any engine under any form of phone system, business phone system, telephone system in the first 30 period... but that'll be the topic of another post!

Don't use unauthorized computer programs to submit pages, check rankings, etc. Such programs consume computing resources and violate our terms of service. Google does not recommend the use of products such as WebPosition Gold™ that send automatic or programmatic queries to Google.

It's optimizing your pages that brings rankings. It's got zero to do with submitting!
