I've been looking over a site that sent me an RFP, and its main navigation is made up of table cells wrapped in layers, which are themselves wrapped in something called an "ILAYER". It appears to have something to do with mouseover effects, but I don't see why it's necessary.
On top of that, the tag isn't listed at W3 Schools, and it doesn't appear to work in any browser other than IE.
Has anyone here seen them or even used them?

I found a few resources that describe an ILAYER, but they all say it was devised for (and works with) Netscape Navigator, up to version 4.x. Here are a few links:

Interestingly enough, NOBODY seems to think that it works with IE. Wierd.

Sort of ironic that NS developed it and no longer supports it. As far as I can tell, it's doing what it's supposed to do when I look at the page with IE: it's just used to do a mouseover effect that changes the background color of the table cell.
I wrote to the prospect that we can achieve that effect with CSS. I hope they go for it, because this is a nice little site with a ton of bad code.
