Incoming Links - Does Capitalization Matter?
Posted 24 January 2005 - 11:36 AM
For ex, for the purpose of keeping as much traffic to one URL, I understand that www.domain.com/the-rest-of-the-address and domain.com/the-rest-of-the-address are considered to be 2 different URL's by the SE's (with and without the www).
So, as a similar matter, my question is:
Are domain.com/the-rest-of-the-address (which is all lowercase) and domain.com/The-Rest-Of-The-Address (with some letters capitalized) considered to be two different URL's by the SE's?
So, if some of the incoming links to this page had the capitals and some had all lowercase, would that be not good for page's page rank b/c SE's considered them as different, or is that ok?

Only IIS would return a 200 status for both, *nix systems would return a 200 if both versions existed or a 404 for the one that didn't.

Only on Windows would
take you to the same page.
On a unix or linux system, they're treated as different pages... Therefore, a search engine spider would probably treat them as different URLs.
Being aware of case sensitivity is a good thing!
