I'm lost...
I can see AdSense ads on other sites, but not on Google.

No personal firewall or similar. I'm on the same network as Matt and yet he gets ads and I don't.

Did you clear the cache and restore defaults on your browser?
(I did tech support for 1 1/2 years for Bellsouth DSL and this sounds like a problem that's happening local on your machine.)
