What if all of my link partners have my link on their site pointing back to my site A. Then I have their links(exchange links) place on my site B which has no link to site A, what then? Would the SE's/Google even know what I am doing? After all the whole point of link exchange programs(most cases) is less about getting people to click from one of your exchange link sites to yours and more about link popularity with the SE. How many links are out there. I would think this system would work well and Google would not be able to tell what is going on.

yeah, yeah, yeah will google spot my very obvious link farm.

If you think it's that good why not just do it. if you have got to ask will it be sussed out eventually. You already know that very likely it will.

It's must be a damned site more work to build these link farm schemes and then try to pretend they aren't, than it would be just to do things the best way in the first place.

The SEs look for patterns of linking, any scheme will have a non-random pattern.

There's a million ways you can trick the search engines, if you're so inclined.

Let us know how it goes for ya...

If your links are relevant then it doesn't matter where you point or to what site. Yahoo especially is good at picking up shonky link structures icluding the triangular pattern you are advocating.

Linking is simple, it goes like this. Find sites of a good quality and link to their most relevant page from the page you are working on. Then ask for a link to whatever page is most relevant. If they link back great, if not, then so what?

Get your site listed in as many directories as possible in the most relevant category, then make sure the spiders can get to that page.

all of this will result in a natural linking pattern, strangely enough, because it is lol.

What you are suggesting has been happening a lot recently, we call it 3 way link exchange and dislike any one doing that,

It is really funny how people assume sites offering link exchanges are dumb, they ask for reciprocal link from a quality site and give back link from some junk directory or junk site, Those mail always go to trash across all sites we handle link exchange and monitor,

I don't think it would matter if the search engines knew what you were doing or not. I'd be more concerned with your link partners and if they were happy with the situation. It wasn't clear from the post if they know how their IB links are being used - or not - but if they don't - it's really an underhanded way of swapping links IMO.

Actually three way linking was suggested as a linking tactic at the recent SES Chicago show by one of the panelists on the Advanced Link Building Session. No one in the room batted an eye or asked a single question after the presentation was made about the process - which surprised me... and not because I necessarily disgree ( I do and I don't). The other interesting thing was the two search engine reps on the panel didn't comment on it either.

I'm not suggesting the engine reps condoned the practice, so please don't read anything into my last statement. They just didn't use it as an example of what not to do when building links. The basic link farm practice WAS mentioned - but three way linking definitely was NOT.

3 way linking can be very helpful to ranking a site and I see nothing wrong with using this tactic if it is done correctly.

For example, I have a client who owns 2 sites that are in the same industry. The first sites "resources" page has a page rank of 6. Because the PR is so high I knew that there would be a number of people who would love to have a link from it.

We added the link and started mailing like any other reciprocal campaign. However I advised people that they would receive a link from a PR 6 page in return for a link to a PR 3 (home) page. Of course many took us up on the offer and the campaign concluded quicker than most.

I think this was a very legitimate use of a 3 way trade.

What you are pointing out is a rare legitimate occasion of 3 way link exchange, But 90 to 95% of the 3 way link exchanges we get are SPAM, This is across around 35 sites which we offer link exchange, People tend to be so generous and are willing to offer you link from some of the most spammiest directories on the web in exchange for link from one of our quality client site to their main site biggrin.gif ,
