Yes, banners aren't by a long shot the most annoying advertising format, but from what I understand, the CTR on them is terrible. As Jill says, people learn quickly to ignore them, even the blinky/bouncy ones. I do have affiliate links on some sites, but I rarely use their banners.

I don't think you should worry much about putting up banners. After all, it's nearly a standard for sites to have some banner. I agree with the others that Google would be a good shot though - not only are they generally less annoying (I do agree they're slightly annoying), but they also generate quite some money...
