Do you link to anybody.  I have seen evidence recently that Google may be cracking down on sites linking to bad neighborhoods.  Also have you tried site:www.domain.com rather than the allinurl?
View Post

Yes. I'm linked to 9 other sites. How would I know if they were "bad neighborhoods"?
I just tried site:www.domain.com I get the same results as allinurl. It seems all my pages are listed but I don't get a cached snapshot of all of them which tells me those pages are not indexed, right?
Thanks.

The strangest thing has just happened to one of my clients' sites.

The index page, with the www, has been ranking quite highly at Google for most of the main terms as recently as yesterday. Today, the index page has vanished. If I do a search for the title tag in quotation marks, it is still ranked. If I do a search for the title tag without the quotation marks or even for much of the title tag in quotation marks, the index page is gone.

I checked the cache, and Google has cahced now only the version of the page without the www, despite that most inbound links go to the www version.

Has anyone ever experienced anything like this before?

You need to do a 301 redirect so the domain.com points to www.domain.com . Google sees them as different pages even though both names actually go to the same page.

David, it is probably a temporary glitch with the weird changes Google is in the midst of. I would make sure you're not doing anything "wrong" but give it a few days before deciding if it's something you need to fix or whatever. My guess is that it will be back fine very shortly.

(These are the kinds of things people notice when they check results too often; the stuff they'd never notice if they didn't check much because it might be missing for one minute, but back the next.)

Not necessarily from checking too often, if the glitch is there for a few days and the page that is missing previously ranked well for some high-volume phrases. Same thing happened to me...I noticed a drop in traffic, got to rooting around in the log files, and figured out "www.mydomain.com" was missing. Google did work itself out and things returned to normal.

We figured the temporary glitch was probably somehow related to bots not recognizing "www" and "non-www" as same page, combined with temporary hiccup in the algo. If you want to look more into the technicalities of that, the Permanent 301 Redirect thread is a good resource. When you get to Ron's long post, if you are not already familiar with what he's saying, be sure to read the whole thing...first time through I stopped in the middle and got messed up! lol.gif

This is my first post here..hope you can help. My site is about 7 months old. I have good rankings on MSN and Yahoo, but never was doing very well in Google. I had one keyword coming in at 38, but as of this week, it is at 400 or so. I have dropped off the planet for my more competive keywords, which were only at 300 or so before. The main problem is.. I'm not coming up AT ALL for my business name, which I was no. 1 for last week. And not only that, Google is not finding a cache at all. One of my internal pages is showing a cache date of Dec. 31, 1969. Yep, 1969.

But.. my pagerank on my home page is still a 5 and am showing 35 backlinks. I'm now in panic mode, so thanks for any help you can offer!

There's a thread here discussing the cache date issue. Perhaps that will have some useful information for you? HTH! thumbup1.gif

Thanks for the replies. What do you think of not showing at all for my business name. That has me kind of freaked out.

Wishme,

I have read is other forums that several people are experiencing the same problem since the update. May be just a glitch.

Welcome to the fun and games wishme ! hi.gif

Nothing to add to the discussion. Take a few deep breaths, try to relax and don't worry about it for at least a few days. In fact, don't even check for at least a few days.

These kinds of things are completely normal when an update is underway. And can especially affect newer sites.
