Another newbie question. After listening to the tutorials at Overture I heard them say the listing will be removed when the funds run out. I understand that no service is free but am I to understand that all search engine listings are cleared also? Does the PPC program have a direct effect on my regular listing ranked 1,837,647 (just kidding, some search engines show us in the top 20 while others show us on page 20)?

My challenge is that our website (tiny and not very much traffic) has been up for four years. I am attempting to do a total overhaul of the site and am partially there. As far as I can tell we are on most of the big engines. Some doubt has been cast on the effectivness of doing PPC at ths stage in the game after reading these forums. But I am still learning. So I have been doing the tutorials at Overture, and that brings me back to the question above.

TIA

Hi Don. When your account runs dry, your PPC ads aren't shown. However, they're still in your account and will go live as soon as you charge your account with more money.

PPC advertising through Overture has no influence on your natural search results.

Don1-

Actually, only your Overture paid listings will be cleared out if your account goes to Zero. It is still possible to appear in the Overture results however, through the inktomi backfill results.

Some doubt has been cast on the effectivness of doing PPC at ths stage in the game after reading these forums.

I think this is unwarranted. PPC can deliver a substantial ROI if its done in a way that makes sense. Fact of the matter is, most small businesses don't really know how to manage their PPC campaign, so they end up seeing poor results. Another fact is, a lot of traditional SEOs are vehemently against PPC... well maybe vehemently is too strong a word, but its a bit like the Open source vs Micro$oft product debate.

I think Don is asking if his regular search engine listings will disappear. If so, then no, those have nothing to do with Overture.

You can get a little exposure from the second tier engines that have not updated their feeds... but it will not last long.
