Here's an article by one of our own Mods (and my co-worker) Matt Bailey.

Have I been kicked out of Google?

Very good article, Matt. I didn't realize it was adviseable to tell the SE what company made the changes that got a site penalized.

Congrat, Matt!

Regarding your very first sentence:

Many companies have found themselves on the receiving end of a search engine penalty.

Don't you mean many companies think they have a search engine penalty?

The rest of your article supports that, but it's just kind of weird with it starting out that way, imo.

Jill - it could go both ways.

I guess I look at it like this; Yes, many webmasters think they have been penalized. But, many companies have been penalized unsuspectingly. It's also a little more of an attention grabber, i thought.

Bob - It's not a requirement to let an SE know who may have put the spam there in the first place, but I felt it would help the client's cause if I outlined the history of who worked on the site and what they did, as some clients go through multiple companies that try many things.
