personally I liked the article.

he seemed to treat pretty much everyone with the same amount of disdain.

I agree! I didn't *not* like the article either! wink.gif Aside from the corrections I made regarding what he said about me, that is.

I thought it was highly amusing how he treated everyone with the same amount of disdain! And you have to admit, it was much better than the usual articles about conference sessions that simply parrot the exact session. Andrew is definitely a good journalist, no doubt about that!

On the whole I liked the article.

My biggest gripe was the implication that Black Hats were somehow more technically competent than White Hats. IMO technical competence is not a behavioural discriminator.

Exactly... if Alan wanted to put on a new hat, he'd instantly become one of the most effective spammers in the history of SEO.

Now there's one way to put the black hats on notice. lol.gif

I would hazard to guess that if all of the current white hats, especially those who had a techie background, decided to change tomorrow the current stable of black hats would be in a lot of trouble.

C'mon Alan! Let's all switch hats just for fun to show 'em what's what!

<That was entirely sarcastic for anybody wondering. Though it would be a fun exercise.>

Alan, we're also discussing your article over at SEW. It might be helpful if you have time to step in with some clarification over there.

I got the feeling that many people seem to have the complete wrong impression of you and your way of thinking, and unfortunately it gets perpetuated when they don't actually READ the specific article in question, but just hear the title.

Projectphp started a thread over there to discuss it, but they were just discussing "ethical seo" in theory. I've been over there trying to get them to discuss the article on its own merits. So far, so good. lol.gif But there's some stuff that would be better for you to clarify yourself, as I can't really speak for you.

thumbup1.gif Well, outside of your corrections Jill, - that was an excellent review and representation of what took place.

I was there too! ...and it was just like he said, and you're right, it was good writing as well. clapping.gif
