http://www.google.co...coff=1&filter=0

www.syngenta.com.au/Start.aspx?PageID=10150& ProductID=137474&menuId=0&MM=&icp=0&sti=1

I count 6 there, which is a ew personally noticed record. Anyone find more than that getting indexed?? I am amazed that many variables can be indexed, and am a bit shocked all round.

If they NEVER and I mean NEVER accidentally code those variables in a different order, they're golden.

Ahem, Scottie:
QUOTE("scottie www.highrankings.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=10903)
I just found URL's with 5 variables in the string appearing in the URL in Google's results

So, that is a 20% increase over what was previously reported tongue.gif

Surely that is news?? (BTW: looked for that thread, couldn't find it, so i posted a new topic... just seemed easier embarrassed.gif).

One thing to point out, is that <G> knows of about 1,300 pages on this domain. It's probably safe to say that even though they may be able to follow these long links, these may be among the last on the domain to get indexed. But, here's to getting better at it, right? crossfingers.gif

I have been noticing this for quite some time with a business directory that I run locally, at least a couple of months.

www.ballina.info/business/index.php?REQ=view& id=34&page=&cat=17&subcat=146&subsubcat=0

have always meant to do a mod rewrite , but just never bothered when I saw this many variables being indexed.

Cool... I still believe in using 'friendly' urls though. Its less scarey for the user - probably my design side speaking. Plus its pretty simple to parse the url and make variables from the excess bits.

Does anyone know how Yahoo! or the new MSN is doing on this? What's the highest number of URL variables each of them can handle?

Last time I checked MSN Beta was doing a pretty good job up to 3 variables. Meaning they seemed to get pretty much every page up to that level but didn't go beyond 3 variables in the url string.

Yahoo! seems to have the most difficulty even indexing pages with multiple variables.

One site I looked at a couple of days ago that has long URL's with multiple variables had around 1,700 pages indexed by Google, 400 or so by MSN Beta and 15 by Yahoo! Dunno if that's typical, but it feels about right if most of the pages contain 2 or more variables.

Funny thing is, Inktomi was one of the first to index dynamic URLs.

I would bet that Yahoo purposely doesn't index them all that well since they can make some decent money from Sitematch if they DON'T index those types.

If that's their reason, it's their loss. wink.gif

It's not like sites are getting less dynamic these days. lol.gif
