Mod-rewrite For Windows
Posted 25 November 2004 - 07:39 PM
I am new to highrankings.com. I am having a problem with my website.
I recently had URL's for my website containing special characters in the URL for example: ?=71.asp. I have changed the URL's using Mod-rewrite so the URL is an .htm.
The google spider has been visiting our site everyday but I do not see the pagerank being spread to the rest of my site after I have done the Mod-rewrite.
I used to have PR on all my other links but now I have no PR on any of my links except the home page.
I was told to wait until google sends the spider to re-index my site, then will distribute the page rank to my new URL pages?
What can I do so that google can index my new URL .htm page and get PR assigned to the new URL. Do I just have to wait.
I also sent a spider thru my website and it recognizes all of my links but there is no PR being assigned to any of my links except the homepage. Please help and thank-you.

As long as the google spider is spidering your pages, and the cache is being updated, then you have no reason to worry.
Welcome to the forum by the way

You said the change was recent. It will take Google time to pick up the changes. In regard to PR Google updates infrequently as far as I can determine. The last 2 PR updates were about 60 to 90 days apart. This is a thread in this forum from someone who has actual dates. You would need to do a search for Google page rank, Google page rank updates or something like that to find the exact thread
You mentioned ? mark in the URL. This should not be a problem. On the other hand doing a mod rewrite for a new site might be a problem. Google and other SEs may see the pages as duplicate content.
If the site is new, and if the mod rewrite is new I think you are just going to have to wait until the SEs decide how to index your site. I think in the long term you are better using the mod rewrite.
OldWelshGuy is one of the most knowledgeable people in this forum. Take his advise over mine.
I don't worry to much about page rank updates.
