Last I heard they had a bit of a back log but they are polite and friendly when they contact you.

They are owned by Reed Business, the company that bought out Cahners Publishing, so this is no in-the-basement operation.
There's no cost to be listed. I registered with them so I could update his company description and get it listed in more appropriate categories.

Anyone know anything about them? The site front page looks nice, but it's a little disorganised underneath, so I'm not sure.

You won't be able to directly submit to Looksmart directory. It is submitted through the zeal (www.zeal.com)directory instead.
Also, looksmart and dmoz does have a geographical directory. For Canadian dmoz, you should check this http://www.dmoz.com/...America/Canada/
It's the same with yahoo or looksmart.
Good luck

I tend to shy from paid directories, as their sense of self-importance usually seems bloated.

LOL! No problem - I spent an entire day running through a much larger list of directories! Unfortunately, most of them either use redirected URLs (useless for SEO purposes) or were simply not indexed (at least one was even using a robots.txt to block access to all but the main page).Thank you Brian,

I will try and expand on the list as it develops.
Of course, as Brett Tabke at WebMasterWorld makes a point of, don't neglect the fact that non-SEO friendly directories can still have an impact in terms of human visitors.

This resourse, Search Engine Colossus UK [http://www.searcheng...us.com/UK.html], has information on various UK directories (in addition to spider search engines) and is a good place to start.

There are a bunch of travel directories listed over at ISEDB.com.
You'll find some niche specific travel directories under the Specialty Directories link on the first page. Plus many in the Major and General Directories will have Travel categories. And don't forget Local & Regional for the areas your site specializes in.
