Being new to SEO, I would love some input:

DMOZ, Yahoo! Looksmart directories. I understand the importance of being listed in these.

Are there any other major directories out there that I should be adding to, in order to increase quality traffic? What are the benefits?

Some Canadian Directories would be appreciated as well.

Input?

(No link Farms Please)

GoGuides.org
JoeAnt
Zeal (non-commercial)
Gimpsy
HotRate (have to be an editor)
Xoron

BrianR ,

You may want to have a look at these UK directories:

dotukdirectory.co.uk
Splut.com

I get a small amount of traffic from Splut for a couple of my sites, don't know a great deal about dotukdirectory, but may be worth investigating further.

Hello,
business.com This is a very good directory. I probably feel a entry here is weighted high in google, I recommand my clients to have a paid entry here,
thanks,
VIJAY.

Thanks for your input, Towny - splut I know of, but dotukdirectory.co.uk is a new one on me - I'll give it a whirl.

Well, if you are hosting a forum, you can get listed in the following directories. They all are small directories, so I don't know if you're interested though.

http://www.forum-search.com/
http://www.forumzilla.com/
http://www.boardreader.com/
http://forumdirectory.com
http://forumdirectory.net/

(You can get listed in my directory as well, if you are running an education or related site)

Splut isn't currently accepting any new URL submissions

From the site:

Due to the success of Splut, we have a large backlog of sites awaiting review.

Once we have this backlog is cleared, Splut will be open to more site suggestions.

NOTE: This does not apply to paying advertisers.

Apologies for any inconvenience caused.

The Splut Team

A friend of mine has put together a comprehensive list of business directories with descriptions, free vs. paid, and the whole site is free to access, no registration or anything, just a free resource. If you're stuck, try taking a peek at it, there are about 30 QUALITY directories listed on the site, as well as tips for yahoo and dmoz.
