Yahoo Spider Yahoo Mail?
Posted 22 November 2004 - 03:07 PM
I checked my stats over the weekend and noticed I have been searched for in Yahoo. I then went to Yahoo and typed in my domain and lo and behold, about 10 pages came up.
Now the weird thing is..I have yet to submit to any SE or even post my site in any forum. (I am still optimizing my beginning pages and didnt want to get spidered till i complete this task.) The only place I see in my stats is that someone with Yahoo emailed clicked on the link i sent them.
So my question is...does Yahoo spider their email for sites? If not, how then could I have been spidered. Also, about a year ago, I put up a family site for a friend and I remember looking at the stats on that page and been found by Yahoo SE on some obscure terms which was in their copy and on some images, which I now look back and think.....only way they could have found us is once again through sending the link via email and opened in a yahoo email account.
If this is true, this might be a good way to get indexed by Yahoo. Love to hear some feedback.
All the Best,
PS. Jill, I did read your book last week and it was like a light bulb went off on understanding of keywords and placement. And with replies back to my other question regarding article length, it gave me a great idea on how I need to structure our site. I love this forum

Matt Cutts said at one of the SES's not too long ago that they were starting to recognize http:// as a link, even if it's not hyperlinked. Possible that Yahoo could do the same thing.

I typed in my domain without the www and the .com and it did not appear, at least on the top 30. But when I added the .com...i then have all the top 10 results.
I don't how they found the link since very few people know of it and it is not posted on any site or forum. I do have another site I am working on with someone, Ishould have the beginning pages up this weekend. I think i will do a test and send it to yahoo mail and see if yahoo picks it up.

Might as well add some fuel to the fire of the myth that visiting url's via toolbars encourages robot spidering/activity, while we're at it.
