301 Redirect Of Domain.com To Domain.com/
Posted 22 November 2004 - 01:24 PM
I was recently told by a SEO company to redirect our website with a 301 redirect from www.domain.com to www.domain.com/. Supposedly some search engines differentiate between the two and best to just have the www.domain.com/ one. So I have been trying to figure out a 301 redirect rule for mod_rewrite to do so, the ones I have attempted just create and infinite loop. So if anyone out there can tell me how to do so it would be appreciated. Thanks.

I would redirect domain.com to www.domain.com, but I wouldn't worry about domain.com vs. domain.com/. The server will automatically redirect that. I would recommend linking to your domain with the trailing slash to cut that redirect whenever possible, though. For example, all your internal links to your home page should just be <a href="/">

The only problem that can come into that situation is if you're on a Windoze server, as IIS doesn't handle those types of redirects correctly all the time.
Use something like the Delorie Tool to see if there's a problem or not. Most likely there won't be.
Welcome valt !
