Some web sites have news feeds that update regularly on their home page. The news is relevant to the products/services sold on the site. However, the primary purpose of the site is not news distribution.
Since Google spiders news sites more frequently than e-tail sites, will an e-tail site with a regularly updated news feed (at least once a day and hopefully more than that) be considered a news site and therefore spidered with greater frequency?

Maybe, maybe not.
Can Google even read the info in the feed or do they simply see the javascript code of the feed. Often the info is pulled from another site.
That said, does it matter how often your site is spidered? If it's not changing anyway, then who cares when it's spidered. As long as your pages are listed in the database you should be good to go.
