Hello,
Great forum!
I have a quick question about linking strategies for affiliates of a large Vegas portal.
If a whole bunch of affiliates (say 1000) of the bigvegasportal.com start using the following linking convention to link their sites to our site, will this hurt search engine our rankings (which uses link count to measure relevance)?
www.bigvegasportal.com/affiliate?src=590&target=2
The caveat is that each affiliate will use a different src and target in the query string as we want to track users and where they are coming from.
thanks,
Craig.

Welcome, Craig!
Generally, affiliate links that have a different affiliate ID at the end do not count towards your link popularity. However, that seems to be changing all the time (in Google at least) and I'm not sure exactly how they're treating them at the moment.
Check for the backlinks of your site and see if those affililate links are counting. That's your best way to know for sure. Just remember that it could change at any time.

Hi
correct me if I'm wrong
but wouldn't
www.bigvegasportal.com/affiliate?src=590&target=2
www.bigvegasportal.com/affiliate?src=591&target=2
www.bigvegasportal.com/affiliate?src=592&target=2
be recognized by google has 3 different pages therefore not generating much back links or page rank
for each page you would have only backlinks from the same site (your affiliate).
in this case I won't help your page rank
