welcome to the forum lighter bye1.gif

You may have gathered from the "serious" answers given, that it isn't an issue to be concerned about.

the myth will have come about by the "effect and cause" pundits noticing that FFA sites and link farms have pages called "links.xxx" and deciding that the filename is the parameter by which they are identified.

There are of course good reasons why you should call your links page something else but it's nothing to do with SEs discounting them and it doesn't seem to have bothered these webmasters.

The question back when there was a question was whether a link from a page called anything like links.htm would count as a backlink -- whether your link partners would get credit for the link you gave them.

So just to be on the safe side I did a quick check of the list Chris has provided. I went to http://www.ptla.org/links.htm, clicked its link to http://www.courts.state.me.us/ and ran a backlink check on that page. Now, if the ptla page had not come up, the test would be inconclusive. We could easily say that it didn't show up because Google's backlink search leaves a lot out. However, it's in there. That's absolute proof (in my little mind, at least) that a link from a page called links.htm "counts," or at least that it can. That is, the name of the page does not automatically cause it not to count. thumbup1.gif

Whatever you do don't call it "links.htm" :-) It doesn't matter what you call it as long is it not a clear giveaway to the spiders that it is indeed a link exchange page. resources.htm sounds good.

Call it whatever your heart desires. Just make it a page worth looking at.
