Do Forum Links and Signatures Help SEO?May 16, 2007 Forum member "vertigo" has been busy posting in online forums and says, "For
about 20 of these forums I have replied to existing posts with original info, and have put a keyword-rich hyperlink to my website in my signature. "For the other 30 forums I have posted new entries, all of which use the same info (dup content) and with my keyword-rich hyperlink in the signature. All 30 of these new posts have the same title..." Is this going to help "vertigo's" SEO efforts? Post Comment They do help, ok they dont have the same weight as a backlink from a website but they are still links. Remember links get clicked by people doesn't matter if it dofollow or nofollow Not true, Suffolk. On our forum, for instance, the signatures are invisible to search engines because they're only visible to logged in members. Forum links helps in getting good results. When forums make links to "no follow" type they are trying to save their PR from others but mostly users does not have any kind of problem with no follow links. they just click on your link and reach their desired website. It means links are always helpful whether they are no follow forums or from do follow forums. Forum signatures are great when your forum's topic match your signature's website. Its a bonafide form of advertising and widely accepted. Indeed, if forums stopped it, they would start dying. Forums are a great way of getting backlinks. It is important that you stay "on topic", if you are obviously randomly bombarding the forums with non informative posts, members will get annoyed and all your efforts could be lost when you get suspended. The issue of relevance is important - links from forums or blogs with little relevance to your website are treated as trash and have very little weight attached to them. Better to spend some time creating quality content and natural backlinks Add anchor text to your links that matches your target keywords. You can do this in many forums and it will add some value to your link juice for your ranking for those keywords. Vary your anchor text, though, or it could hurt you. Link to "deep pages" on your site as well as front pages. Add Your Comments |

It does help - however, many forums today have no follows, one way to check that is using NoDoFollow 1.1 by zachary fox. It's a great tool for link building.
