Do We Need SEO Standards?April 9, 2008 The SEO standards debate has been rearing its head again over the past few weeks. (It's been going on since at least 1998!) You can read my thoughts on this subject over at Search Engine Land.
In a nutshell, I don't believe we need them. That said, after reading additional forum discussions on the topic, it certainly does make sense for search marketing organizations such as SEMPO to have a set of standards that their members must adhere to (if they don't already). However, there's no way for the search marketing industry as a whole to have standards, as we don't have (nor do we need) some sort of governing body that would enforce them.

Post Comment Eugene, isn't that part of your original selling process to the client? If theyr'e signing on with you without knowing that stuff, it seems pretty silly on their part, if you ask me. Add Your Comments |

Perhaps standards are really unnecessary,
but i think we do need some list for clients to check SEO-job what's really done. just because specialist can bursh website on top jsut with paid links and websites will fall dawn as soon as optimiser got paid, just several monthes later.
So SEO have to be complex and tuch content of couse. Clietn must know where to see and at least understand why have he to provide access to his website.
